Experienced and international awards winning journalist Geoffrey Nyarota has been appointed Director of Journalism School at Cristian College of Southern Africa (CCOSSA).
In a press statement released by the institution in the capital, Nyarota will head the journalism school which has produced some of the finest journalists and media personalities in the region.
“He brings to CCOSSA a wealth of experience as a practising journalist and journalism trainer.”The statement reads.
Nyarota said he looks forward taking CCOSSA to greater heights by working with other similar institutions regionally and internationally .
” We will employ top calls journalists to produce a journalism graduate who will be the favourite recruit for editors in the region in terms of journalism best practices and journalism ethics.” He said.
Nyarota was the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Daily News. He is a BA graduate of the then University of Rhodesia and a fellow of the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University in USA.
He also served at Oslo University in Norway as a guest professor in the department of media studies and communication.
The experienced journalist then served for four years on the board of Reuters Institute for the study of journalism at Oxford University in United Kingdom.
Nyarota was accredited for his investigative journalism when he unravelled corruption that was taking place in the 80’s at Willowvale Motor Industry.
The Willowgate scandal exposed some government officials who were corruptly benefitting from the company at the expense of the government.
