Ramaphosa Condemns Violence Against Zimbabwean Foreigners

President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned the violence being metted against Zimbabweans and foreigners, in an operation by vigilante group Dudula that is going on in South Africa.

Ramaphosa today announced on Twitter that all those who are partaking in Operation Dudula in the name of patriotism are doing actions that are xenophobic, unethical and unlawful.

“Attacking those we suspect of wrong doing merely because they are a foreign national is not an act of patriotism. It is immoral, racist and criminal. In the end, it will lead to xenophobia, whose consequences we have lived through in previous years,” said Ramaphosa.

South Africans are moving around the country requesting passports from Zimbabweans staying in their country and failure to produce the documents they are attacking them.

These attacks led to the death of one Elvis Nyathi a Zimbabwean Nationality, who was burnt to death in Diepsloot, Johannesburg South Africa last week Wednesday.

The incident has brought different reactions on twitter, where Zimbabweans are greatly in pain of losing a brother, father, husband and a friend, and even some South African’s are sympathizing with the family for the loss.

On the other hand other South Africans are blaming illegal immigrants for the criminal offenses happening in their country such as robbery, rape, shoplifting and murder, saying the foreigners deserve the Dudula Operation.

Another twit, highlighted that offering cheap labor to S.A companies is one reason they are partaking in this operation, they claim if Zimbabweans are hard workers they must go back to their country and work hard there because they feel like Zimbabweans are a threat to their jobs so they are portraying hatred by hate speech against them.

Other South African twitter users justified these attacks saying Zimbabweans should always carry their passports when moving around all the time.
