Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) ruling party yesterday said that Zimbabwe must learn to accept election results , adding that the just ended by-elections has shown that that the Zimbabwe Electoral commission has the capacity to run free and fair elections.

This development comes after the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) opposition party criticized ZEC for being biased towards the Zanupf during elections.

Speaking during a press conference Zanupf National Spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa said that the by – elections has proven that ZEC is not biased towards the ruling party for it has accorded fairly the CCC its win.

“I want to give thumbs up to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission for providing a fair hunting ground for all the parties .I do hope that the unfair criticism which have been labeled against ZEC can now die down because they have accorded votes to CCC fairly. The CCC opposition party were of the view that ZEC is biased hence CCC has to swallow their pride and say allegations against ZEC were unfounded,” he said.

The parliamentary and local government by-elections are seen as a preview of next year’s presidential elections in which the opposition is hoping to dislodge ZANU-PF, which has been in power since Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980.

On numerous occasions the ZEC has been dubbed captured by the clueless Zanupf and their independence questioned by the alternatives as well as international independent media. ZEC never condemned Zanupf political violence and intimidation of voters prior and post elections. Likewise, Citizens Coalition For Change believes that the June 2008 elections could not be conducted fairly due to high levels of torture and forced disappearances.
