Zimbabweans will always have final say in the country’s political disputes, opposition Citizen’s Coalition for Change President Nelson Chamisa has said.
Chamisa told journalists at a press briefing in the aftermath of the hotly contested by-, elections that President Emerson Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF party are “in-electable”.
Chamisa’s new party managed to attain 19 member of Parliament seats at the by elections this weekend.
“Citizens are the final authority, citizens are the final court of appeal, this was a correction of the mistakes made by various political parties and the state conniving against us. You know what happened in Parliament, the illegal recalls you know what happened with the other political parties conniving with Zanu PF trying to destroy us.
Chamisa added that, “Citizens are the umpires and they have said enough is enough on the mistakes by Mr Mnangangwa, enough is enough on the mistake by the courts and the final courts is the will of the people and people have expressed themselves they said they want the face for change.
“Citizens knows what and who they want and they have made a statement, even in the rural areas forget about the huge figures Zanu PF is not capable of been voted for. All those figures are a fiction, and we have to deal with that because there are gaps around and there is need to correct on how we are observing the election and the issue of traditional leaders. This whole lie that country side belong to Zanu PF story is a hoax. We are strong in the rural areas that is why people are intimidated,” said Chamisa.
The parliamentary and local government by-elections are seen as a preview of next year’s presidential elections in which the opposition is hoping to dislodge ZANU-PF, which has been in power since Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980.
