Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has banned the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rally scheduled to be held in Masvingo this coming sunday.
This is the 4th rally banned by the ZRP.
In a memo written by the ZRP to Citizen’s Coalition For Change Masvingo District Chairman Martin Mureri reads:
” I Smangaliso Dube being the Officer Commanding Masvingo Central District and the Regulating Authority for Masvingo Central District an area covering Rujeko open grounds in Terms of section 3(1) of the Maintanance of Peace and Order Act Chapter 11.23 hereby issue a prohibition notice in terms of section 8(10) of the saod Act for the reason written hereunder
Masvingo Central Police District is hosting two ZanuPF Rallies which are booked on the same municipality area at two different venues at Mucheke and Mamutse stadia on the same date as yours. On the 20th of March 2022. Hosting a third Raly on the same will not be feasible under the circumstances as police would not able to cope due to resources constraints.
The police district has already drawn manpower from the surrounding police stations to provide enough safety and security in respect of these two rallies to an extent of leaving skeleton staff manning our police establishment.
However CCC Deputy Spokesperson Ostallos Siziba said the rally will proceed at an open space in Rujeko.
“In terms of our rally in Masvingo there have been desperate attempts by ZANUPF to try and stop us from doing our political programme by booking all venues in Masvingo for the next 3 weeks , However we are proceeding with our rally in Rujeko open space,” the deputy spokesperson said.
