Witnesses to the violence that rocked the city of Kwekwe during an opposition Citizen’s Coalition for Change rally have sensationally claimed police and ruling party officials are barring them from testifying.
Police in a statement hours after the violence took place, accused Zanu PF activists of orchestrating the incident.
Insiders told Techmag.Tv that witnesses are being obstructed from testifying by police and Zanu PF officials. At least 16 Zanu PF Youths were arrested for the violence.
“There is collusion with ZRP Kwekwe police and Zanu PF, 3 witnesses are failing to testify against the perpetrators of Kwekwe violence upon arrival to give our testimonies were are barred by marked vehicles with alleged Zanu PF youths,” a witness said.
Reached for comment police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the witnesses must go get help from senior police officers in Kwekwe.
“If the witnesses are facing any challenges they must report to Police Officer Commanding Kwekwe District, Chief Superintendent Denford Maingire,” said Nyathi.
Some 11 of the 16 youths arrested were released from custody following the Kwekwe violence which took a life of one Mboneni Ncube and left 17 seriously injured. The other 5 will appear in court on March 15, 2022.
