Human rights group have criticised the call by the Douglas Mwonzora led MDC-T for the postponement of elections.
The party’s Morgan Komichi had said that elections without reforms were useless hence there was need to go do dialogue between the ruling party and the MDC-T
However rights groups have slammed those remarks adding that the power lies in the people not the political elite.
Political analyst Mthuli Hanana in a statement to the Newsday, said that the MDC-T was scared of the elections as no one would vote them and instead they want to enjoy the perks of being in parliament.
“Stalling of elections is an MDC-T ploy to continue occupying the seats that they stoke from the MDC Alliance.
They will know that with or without electoral reforms, they will not win any seats in the parliament. In any case if they are genuine let then give up the seats that they got without electoral reforms,”Hanana said.
The MDC-T has been under fire for illegally recalling MPs who won parliamentary sits under the MDC Alliance banner,a move which civil society said undermined the country’s democracy.
Over 40 MDC Alliance have been controversially recalled from parliament by the Douglas Mwonzora party and some have labelled Mwonzora a ZANU PF proxy who is being used to decimate the country’s largest opposition party led by President Nelson Chamisa.
Last week the MDC-T was invited to a provincial stakeholders meeting while the MDC Alliance was snubbed by the electoral body,a move which exposed ZEC’s double standards
