National Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi has urged the public to desist from boarding unregistered taxis, saying such a scenarios exposes them to danger.

The latter’s statement comes on the backdrop of a spike in armed robbery cases in the country involving pirate taxis.

“We are concerned about an increase in robbery cases that are being used to commit armed robberies and rape cases countrywide and we would want to continue urging people to prioritise their safety and security by desisting from boarding such vehicles as this would expose them to criminals,”Ass Comm Nyathi said.

The police recently launched a blitz targeting pirate taxis as armed robbery cases are on the increase.

“Besides arrests of armed robbers by the police, we have launched an operation targeting pirate taxis and we are also conducting awareness campaigns countrywide,”added Nyathi
