The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on Friday received an encouraging stimulus of 79 vehicles from the government to improve the law enforcement agencies’ working conditions.
46 single cab ford rangers , 24 kia picanto , 9 kia rio ,2 Renault kwd and 1 renault logan were handed over.
This comes at a time when the public has been accusing the government for not prioritising the working conditions of the ZRP.
The majority of police stations across the country have no functional vehicles thereby complicating their duties.
Speaking during the handover ceremony President Emmerson Mnangagwa said, “We are going to improve conditions of service for the police so they are not attracted to criminality”
“The fleet being commissioned today should boost the operational effectiveness and visibility of the police as it responds to criminal activities and fosters a safe and secure environment for all.”
“Criminals should never be given breathing space”
Mnangagwa added that Night patrols by the police should be resuscitated.
He further added that a number of helicopters for aerial patrol will be availed within the next two years.
