Desperate home seekers in New Msasa Park have appealed government to intervene in land disputes at the new suburb.
Land barons have been parcelling out land at will resulting in double allocation on one stand.
A source who spoke to this publication revealed that rampant corruption was taking place in the area as the Mukuvisi Kushinga Housing cooperative has not been transparent in it operations.
“The double allocation of stands has been quiet a challenge and many people here have been duped by the land barons”,said the anonymous source.
Former councillor Peter Mudavanhu who is at the epicenter of the land scandal could not be reached for comment.
Mukuvisi Kushinga Housing cooperative was founded in 2010 during Mudavanhu’s tenure as ward councillor and the stand allocation of stands on this land has courted controversy with EMA saying the land is designated as a wetland.
Harare City Council spokesperson Mr Michael Chideme urged people to report such cases to council for investigation.
“We urged people to report such cases to us for investigation and resolution of the disputes,” he said.
The demand in affordable housing has resulted in a proliferation of bogus land dealers and illegal housing structures all across the city.
