Workers across the country have been put under threat with employers giving ultimatums for COVID19 vaccination or risk being fired.
Initially President Mnangagwa announced that no one will be forced to take the vaccine, but a change in the stance is being seen probably due to vaccine hesitancy.
In order to curtail new Covid-19 infections and deaths government ordered all civil servants to be vaccinated, while unvaccinated workers have been banned from boarding buses provided by the employer.
During a post cabinet briefing last week Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa told the media that government approved the reduce of workers while prioritising those who have been vaccinated.
“In light of the continued rise in COVID-19 cases, cabinet approved the decongesting of both public and private sector workplaces. Priority will be given to the vaccinated personnel,” she said.
Government workplaces are currently enforcing the no vaccination no employment stanza.
Recently , internet service provider TelOne issued a notice informing its workers that those among them who had not been vaccinated would now be required to stay home.
Also, in a reportedly leaked memo from the Grain Marketing Board workers are being given ultimatums to get vaccinated or risk loosing their jobs.
The memo states that all GMB employees must be vaccinated by 31 July 2021.
Those not vaccinated by that date should stop coming to work from 1 August 2021 as they will remain a threat to other employees and other stakeholders that visit GMB depots.
Zimbabwe on Sunday received an additional one million doses of the Chinese developed Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine.
The use of the Chinese Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines, as well as Russia’s Sputnik V and India’s Covaxin have so far been authorised.
Government plans to vaccinate about 10 million people, representing 60% of the population required to reach herd immunity.
