Zim govt is similar to that of Eswatini: MDC Alliance

Zimbabwe’s biggest opposition party MDC Alliance has related the Zimbabwean government with that of Eswatini in terms of human rights violation.

Addressing to the media during a press conference on solidarity with Eswatini citizens on Thursday, MDC Alliance Secretary for International Relations, Gladys Hlatywayo said both governments have a character that does not believe in the rule of law and disrespect the international law.

“The government of Zimbabwe is essentially the same with the Eswatini government in terms of its character. It is a government that violates human rights, a government that does not believe in the rule of law, it is a government that does not respect the International Law.  So there is no basis whatsoever for us to be engaging the Zimbabwean government on the particular question of Eswatini because for all we know they are giving solidarity to the King’s party giving him strategies on how to maintain a stronghold on how to maintain power,” Hlatywayo said

MDC Alliance has further showed solidarity with the Eswatini citizens in calling for an end to autocratic rule.

“One Africa One People! Injure One Injure All! Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere! Democracy in our life time,” she added.

The Secretary for International Relations further added that the autocratic rule in Eswatini violates human rights, democracy and the rule of law as the government fires live bullets on defenceless citizens.

“The autocratic in Eswatini violates regional, continental and International principles of human rights.”

This came after people of  Eswatini  are demanding democratic reforms and accuse King Mswati III, who has ruled the tiny mountain kingdom for more than 30 years as an absolute monarch, of repression.

Rights groups accuse the royal family, including the king’s 15 wives, of enjoying a lavish lifestyle while many of the country’s 1.1 million people live in poverty.
