Ruling party ,ZANU PF Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu on Monday said they are against the ongoing demolitions of houses in Mashonaland East Province which have left a lot of families homeless.
These utterance comes amid public outcry over the development that left hundreds homeless.
Obert Mpofu told the media in Harare that the ruling party was troubled by what he called the “inhumane ongoing demolitions.
“There have been ongoing demolitions in Mashonaland East province, Melfort area in the past week and other parts of Harare, which have led to the unwarranted loss of shelter and income to the affected families.”
“As such the current wanton demolitions in urban and peri-urban areas must stop forthwith, while processes to resolve the associated challenges in motion. An all stakeholders meeting will be convened soon to discuss similar matters in areas affected,” said Mpofu.
Mpofu added that the party supports the concept of regularising illegal houses to preserve the right to shelter.
ZANU PF blames MDC saying the most local authority governments are controlled by the opposition party.
MDC on the other hand claims the ruling ZANU PF owns housing cooperatives that will be allocating land.
