An ill Joanna Mamombe who is also Harare West Member of Parliament, was forcibly removed from hospital by prison wardens last night, an act which has been described by the MDC Alliance as cruel and inhuman.

The prison officers ignored her doctors order that she should be hospitalized for special treatment.
Mamombe was taken to hospital on Wednesday after she complained of stomach pains.

The MDC Alliance member has been incarcerated for 45 days at the notorious Chikurubi Prison.

In a video clip taken from the hospital Mamombe is seen saying , “ I am not going anywhere , you will actually inject me to be unconscious I am a prisoner but I still have rights , I am in pain and Im not going.”

“Go and tell the person who sent you that im not going.” She said.

Commenting on the situation MDC Alliance Spokesperson Fadzai Mahere said that such actions are brutal and vicious.

“In the latest show of cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, Joana Mamombe was forcibly removed from hospital by prison officials last night against the orders of her doctor who says she needs specialist treatment.”
“ She remains gravely ill and was scheduled to see a specialist today, “ Mahere said.

Mamombe and Chimbiri are accused of breaching COVID-19 regulations after holding a press conference at the Harare Magistrates’ Court demanding the release of jailed MDC Youth Assembly leader Makomborero Haruzivishe.

High Court judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi denied them bail on 25 March this year after they had appealed to the High Court for bail pending trial.
