Extra Covid 19 measures as Easter beckons

Additional measures against the spread of covid 19 were put in place yesterday ahead of the Easter Holidays starting on April 2 until the 5th of April.

In a statement, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said the nation has to be protected to avoid the third wave of Covid 19 which has already attacked other nationsn the world.

“To safeguard our Nation, we need to take some additional measures to avoid the 3rd wave of the pandemic which is already attacking some Nations of the World.”

He further added that gathering will remain limited to no more than 50 despite the fact that the christian holidays ahead will be characterized by people flocking to different places of worship.

“This Christian Commemoration ends on the 5th of April when our Nation celebrates Easter Monday.

“In keeping with Christian practices, Zimbabweans flock to different places of worships, with some visiting holy shrines.

“All gatherings, including church services, funerals and weddings will remain limited to not more than 50 people”

He further added that social distancing and wearing a mask remain mandatory and during the Easter Holidays it will be strictly enforced to curb the spread of covid 19.

“Wearing of masks and social distancing will be strictly adhered to and enforced.”

“Bars and night clubs will remain closed during the Easter Holidays.

The public has been urged to stop all unnecessary travel outside their residence.

He urged all locals to instead come forward to designated centres for vaccination so that our Nation builds towards herd immunity.
