Parents bemoan pupils attendance in groups

Parents have raised concerns over the group attendance of pupils in schools limiting their days of learning, following months of staying home as a result of the Covid-19 induced lockdown.

While they have invested much in fees payments and purchasing of uniforms , the attendance in groups has created a perception of their funds not being fully utilized.

Government stated that non writing public examination classes can alternatively attend classes in order to limit the number of pupils per class as part of Covid-19 measures.

Form one’s attend only Tuesday and Friday while other forms are grouped to attend Monday , Thursday and Wednesday.

A parent who spoke to Techmag.Tv expressed concerns , which were largely on her Form one child attending school twice a week.

“As much as there is Covid19 and we need to take safety measures , the fact that my child is attending school twice a week does not sit well with me.”

“ I have paid fees in full , purchased everything which is required only for her to attend twice, my child will not even benefit much after all she is starting the term late.” Said a concerned a parent.

Another parent who spoke to TechMag.tv said, ” I think children should fully attend schools while safe covid 19 measures are being implemented.

By the time of publication Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Acting Deputy Director Communications Patrick Zumbo had not responded.

However for pupils writing public examinations this year are to attend classes daily so that they make up for the lost time as a result of Covid-19 induced schools closure last year and this year.

Following a second phase of schools being closed this years term resumed on Monday 21 February , ending on June 4 with the Second Term commencing on June 28 and ending on September 10. The Third Term will start on October 4 and end on December 17.

Prior to the reopening of schools , pupils were using online learning as an alternative , however the cost of data bundles and limited access to WIFI

challenged full learning capabilities.

Meanwhile , the impasse between teachers and government continues with teachers citing incapacitation demanding restoration of USD salaries to pre October 2018.
