Government has announced that covid 19 vaccination which is expected to start next week will be conducted in phases starting with the population at high risk including health workers.
In a press statement issued yesterday, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said the first phase which will be in two stages will target the health workers, Ports of Entry personnel ZIMRA, Immigration, Customs, funeral parlour and the security personnels as the first stage.
Those with chronic illnesses, elders from 60 years and above, inmates and prison population and refuge camps will be vaccinated at stage two of first phase

Government has further stated that the second phase of vaccination will cater for all lecturers and school staff population including others at medium risk of covid 19 depending on the epidemiological picture of the disease.
The last phase of vaccination will be for the general population who are at low risk
“The second phase will cater for lecturers, all schools staff and other staff at medium risk depending on the epidemiological picture of the disease.

This comes after country is expecting to receive the first batch of Covid 19 vaccine from China which will immediately be distributed in all provinces and districts next week.
In addition to the Chinese vaccine, government said it is in negotiations with Russia in order to acquire the Sputnik V vaccine.
