The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a warning on individuals and groups against what is being termed as cyber bulling on government officials who will be performing their official duties.

The police states that they are aware of those harassing government officials on social media sites.

Posting on microblogging site Twitter , ZRP pointed out Harare Provincial District Coordinator Tafadzwa Muguti and the Permanent Secretary of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana as victims of cyberbullying.

Nick Mangwana and Tafadzwa Muguti has been very active on social media while posting issues that attract criticism.

“The ZRP warns individuals and groups from committing crimes through cyber-bullying of Government officials who will be performing their Constitutional and lawful obligations in terms of service delivery to Zimbabweans.”

“The Police are aware that a certain group of suspects who know that their arrest is imminent is fingered and issuing threats and harassing some officials @TMuguti @nickmangwana, “ reads the post.

Responding to the tweet by the police, Political opposition party MDC alliance said , “ ZRP must be able to differentiate between holding the public officials accountable & cyber-bullying. We are still waiting to hear who abducted the MDC Trio from the police cells at Harare Central Police Station.”

The Ministry of information, publicity and broadcasting Twitter account @InfoMinZw was this year banned and deleted by Twitter for possible violation of Twitter rules.

This was not the first time the account while previously it was only suspended.

Reports the account had many people complaining to Twitter against it, blaming it for spreading propaganda and defending some government policies that were not so popular with the followers.
