Newly installed Minister of Health and Child Care who is also the Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Constantine Guveya Chiwenga has pledged to restructure the bedridden local health system.

His pledge comes at a time the current health system is facing a myriad of challenges attributable to collapsed economy, corruption, poor governance among others.

The Vice President made the remarks on Wednesday while on a winter maize crop assessment programme in Middle Sabi and Chiredzi district.

“We are restructuring the health system of Zimbabwe we want to establish rural health care facilities up to hospitals. We want together with the ministry of finance and the health services board to see that what happened before will not be repeated,” he said.

Currently, the health sector is facing an acute shortage of medical equipment which has put the lives of frontline workers at risk in the face of the deadly COVID-19.

Several health practitioners have deserted public hospitals in protest against poor working conditions and measly financial packages.
