End SARS protests in Nigeria protesting a Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police Force have worsened amid reports that the police open fire on protestors and the government of Nigeria had to impose a curfew in some states to contain the protests.
Nigeria has reportedly imposed a 24-hour curfew on the capital Lagos in a bid to stop the protests but protestors are not showing signs of planning to stop the end SARS protests.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has offered a series of concessions in an attempt to quell the disturbances, pledging comprehensive reform and compensation to the victims of any brutality by officers.
The Nigerian police announced that a new Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team would “fill the gaps arising from the dissolution of the defunct SARS”.
The end SARS protest which according to the Nigeria Chamber of commerce has made Nigeria lose $2 billion because of the disruptions, started on 8 October after a video of a member of SARS shooting a man went viral on social media.
President Buhari dissolved SARS and immediately formed another police outfit Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and the protestors are not happy with the decision.
