Valentine Choga popularly known as Van Choga’s song John Vhura Gedhi which is currently trending on social media platforms has been received with mixed feelings with some commending the energetic singer’s creativity while others criticised him for duplicating South African hit song ‘John Vuli Gate’ by Mapara A Jazz featuring Ntosh Gazi and Colano.
The song, John Vuli Gate, smashed Shazam’s global charts. The song recorded the highest entry into the international chart following social media craze on TikTok and Twitter.
The #JohnVuliGateChallenge is the latest dance trend that has been prompted by the infectious song.
Van Choga is one of the few local artists to join the challenge with his shona version, John Vhura Gedhi ( John open the gate).
In his song, Choga accuses John for impregnating his daughter.
Choga accompanies the daughter to John’s house, he asks him to open his gate to take the daughter as his wife.
He dares John to disappoint him by not acknowledging responsibility.
His creativity has earned him both enemies and admirers.
One Ke Sharp who had the most comments on twitter following his polite comment on the Pindikiti hit maker video of the controversial song tweeted,”Was this necessary” as a follow up on the video caption that read,”To Our Beloved Neighbours there was absolutely absolutely no need.”
Zimbabweans on Twitter disowned Van Choga with some calling him an escapee from Mental Instituitions,others calling him a foreigner and others simply calling him a bad artists.
Some of the comments read,”This guy ran away from a mental hospital. Kindly forgive us. The authorities have already tracked him down, the situation is under control.”
“Don’t mind him. He comes from a place called Masvingo. It’s just like Polokwane.
Let’s pretend he is a Venda too and carry on with our lives.”
“The guy ( Van Choga ) have been arrested in the early hours of today by several “state security agents”with police saying the guy would be charged for tarnishing the image of the country.The charge is thought to be linked with a song he recently released titled “John Vhura Gedhe”
“Ohh that’s van Choga he escaped from Annex facility , we were actually looking for him in Harare . Thanks for highlighting this issue , I am sure he is locked up again , forget you ever saw this .”
“On behalf of Zimbabweans i would like to apologize for this its the works of a few unruly cadres and i assure you we are taking decisive action to rectify this.”
South Africans also commented on the Zimbabwean artist video mocking him and stating how he should not have tried to remix the song.The fact that he had back up dancers also attracted a lot of negativity.
