The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe has stated that they will not apologies for demanding better salaries, or be threatened like what Doctors did.
Their remarks comes after Doctors specialising in different medical disciplines in a televised video clip apologised to Vice President and Health Minister Constantino Chiwenga over protests that led to their suspension.
The medical practitioners who met with the top three ministry officials at Munhumutapa government offices in Harare on Monday, took turns asking for forgiveness for protesting over poor working conditions and remuneration.
While teachers across the county have been making the same demands of a salary increment in USD to capacitate them in the inflationary environment have vowed not to issue an apology alleging that the doctors were pressured and intimidated.
Posting on microblogging site Twitter on Tuesday the teachers union said, “ Whatever circumstances, we wont apologise to anyone for demanding what is legitimately ours,a living wage.”
“We are free from both “fear and greedy” We feel sorry for the Doctors, we know they were coerced. If the workers unite across sectors we can resist the manipulation.”
While government has issued threats on striking teachers, they have responed saying they are not threatened until government meet their demands.
