Impala Car Rental has dismissed claims that they are withholding and delaying the release of information on the people who hired their vehicle which was used to abduct Tawanda Muchehiwa.
The car rental company they are not frustrating the process but, do not have the documents to release in their possession.
Jivas Mudimu Impala’s legal team said the developments while addressing the media on Thursday.
“In our first statement we highlighted that we will be abiding by the law enforcement agents and when they came to our offices asking for the file we then gave them.”
“So we are not frustrating the process. We are actually cooperating but we are not in a position to give the documents we do not have in our possession.”
“ The police seized the file from our company and anyone who wants the document can access it from the police, “ said Mudimu.
He added that they did a follow up letter to the police asking about the file only to be told that it was being used for investigations.
“Because we are a concerned company and we are willing to assist Muchehiwa in finding the criminals we then made a follow up to the police but they told us that it was being used for further investigations,” he said.
Tawanda Muchehiwa was abducted by suspected state agents in Bulawayo on 30 July prior to the July 31 protests , he was later found dumbed near his home with severe injuries.
His abduction was captured on CCTV later emerging that an Impala Vehicle was used in the kidnapping.
However, the car rental company has not been corporation with the information regarding which identifies the person who hired the vehicle, the GPS information of the vehicle all those days.
