Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) led by Thokozani Khupe has recalled 11 councillors from Harare including Deputy Mayor Mupamawonde Enoch.
It brings to 16 the number of councillors the MDC-T has recalled in Harare in the last few months.
In a letter addressed to the Minister of Local Government and Public works Honourable July Moyo states that in terms of section 278 of the constitution of Zimbabwe, as read with Section 129 following councillors have been expelled from the party:
“Makuwerere Lovemore Ward 24, Hadebe Gilbert ward 39, Kufahakutizwi Munyaradzi ward 19, Mapanzure Simon ward 34,Chidhagu Charles ward30, Charumbira Keith ward 8, Dhliwayo Steven ward 40, Ndira Barnabas ward 21, Runyowa Chihoma ward 29, Nyatsuro Charles ward 6and Mupamawonde Enoch of ward 35,”
“In terms of section 121 of the Electoral Act, please inform the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC),” it reads.
MDC-T armed with a Supreme Court ruling that declared Khupe an interim MDC-T leader, the Khupe led faction has been recalling senators and councillors belonging to the MDC-Alliance and have moved to replace the recalled legislators with candidates of their own choosing.
Harare has a 46-member council currently controlled by the MDC Alliance which took 45 of the seats at the last election in July 2018. ZanuPf won seat.
