Minister of Defence and War Veteran Affairs Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has said the killing of two assailants who shot three soldiers in separate incidents in Chivhu over the weekend serves as a warning to criminals not to tamper with the country’s security forces.

Two suspects who have not been named were gunned down on Saturday in a shooting incident in which a solider was killed.

The Minister made the remarks in light of the situation at a Provincial Coordinating Committee extraordinary meeting in Mutare on Sunday, “ Because of the bravery of our soldiers and police, they were able to neutralise the assailants and kill the two.”

“This should serve as a warning to criminals who try to tamper with our security forces that they will be met with equal force, “ she said.

“Our soldiers and police are giving assurance to the nation that they will always protect our people and protect our territorial integrity.”

“We are pleased that our police and members of the ZNA, working on a tip-off from the public, managed to track down the assailants to near Gutu.”

The suspects were found according to reports were found camped in a bush outside Chivhu town.

A shoot out occurred , they were killed and their bodies were loaded in a police truck .

However, their killings have sparked debates on twitter with allegations of injustice being exercised by the state.

MDC Alliance Vice President Tendai Biti condemned the move by the security agents via his Twitter, “ Reports of the extra judicial execution of two alleged suspects in the death of a security agent in Chivhu are regrettable & sad . In a normative constitutional democracy this conduct is reprehensible. #ZimbabweanLivesMatter . Emmerson is pushing Zim to an irreversible brink.”
