Freelance Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono will appeal for fresh ball application on Thursday after being denied bail 3 times.

Chi’nono has been arrested for over a month now with a pending trial on charges of inciting public violence urging people to protest against President Mnangagwa’s administration over allegations of corruption.

On Monday Harare Magistrate Ngoni Nduna denied him bail for the third time saying there were no compelling change of circumstances warranting grant of bail.

Lawyers representing Chi’nono are making a fresh attempt to appeal for a fresh bail application.

He is being represented by Advocate Taona Nyamakura , Gift Mtisi , Doug Coltart and Roeslyn Hanzi.

Chi’nono representative Doug Coltart commented on Hopewell situation saying that, “ “What we have seen with Hopewell is unprecedented in the last 20 years. The crackdown speaks of a regime that is insecure, unstable and is lashing out against anyone it sees as a threat,”

“As the government become more and more unpopular, more and more people are going to take action and more of them will become targets of the regime, “ said Coltart.

While arriving in a prison van at Rotten Row court on Monday for his bearing Chi’nono said whilst in the van,“I will be strong. I am fine.”

Chi’nono’s arrest raised criticism and international traction with various organisations speaking that he be released.

The European Union (EU) raised concerns over the ongoing imprisonment of Chi’nono saying Journalism is not a crime.

“Very concerned about the continuous and prolonged detention of Hopewell Chin’ono. Journalism is not a crime, but crucial for any democratic society as journalists help curbing corruption and assist development,” the EU in Zimbabwe said in a statement.
