The Harare Magistrates’ Court has sentenced Norman Chirume (36) from Mufakose to three months in prison after being convicted of unlawful possession and distribution of dangerous drugs.
The sentence follows his arrest on January 16, 2025, after detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Drugs and Narcotics Harare raided his residence.
The raid was conducted following a tip-off indicating that Chirume was manufacturing and selling dagga-laced chocolates, reportedly targeting the youth in the community.
A search of his house led to the recovery of 270 prepared ganja chocolates, 75 nuggets of loose dagga, chocolate bars, and aluminum foil.
Preliminary tests conducted on the seized sweets confirmed the presence of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound found in cannabis.
All the recovered items were presented in court as evidence, contributing to Chirume’s conviction.
