ZIFA Suspends Three Premiere League for Poor Officiating

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has suspended three Premier League referees for a period ranging from four to six weeks following assessments of their performance that fell below expected standards in recent top-flight matches. 

The suspensions follow a review by the ZIFA Referees Committee.

Lawrence Zimondi faces a four-week suspension, covering Matchdays 11 to 14.

This decision comes after his officiating in two specific matches was deemed substandard: the Highlanders versus CAPS United clash on April 13th at Barbourfields Stadium, and the Ngezi Platinum against Yadah fixture played on April 30th at Baobab Stadium.

Fellow referee Nelson Meke has also been handed a four-week suspension, also spanning Matchdays 11 to 14.

His suspension is a direct consequence of his performance during the Scotland versus Herentals match held on May 1st at Rufaro Stadium.

The longest suspension has been levied against Tichaona Mbire, who will be sidelined for six weeks, from Matchday 11 through to Matchday 16. 

This action follows an unsatisfactory performance in the MWOS versus Manica Diamonds game that took place on May 1st at Ngoni Stadium.

In its statement, ZIFA emphasized its commitment to maintaining the integrity and credibility of Zimbabwean football. 

The association stressed that all match officials are expected to adhere to the highest levels of professionalism, consistency, and competence, and that corrective measures will be implemented whenever these standards are not met.

 

The suspensions will take effect from the upcoming Matchday 11 of the Premier Soccer League.
