Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Hon F.T Mhona, has launched the Easter and Independence Road Safety Education and Enforcement awareness campaign in Glendale, Mashonaland Central Province. This year’s campaign, themed “Safety starts with me!”, aims to reduce road carnage during the holidays.

During the launch, Hon Mhona urged the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) to strengthen its communication strategy, emphasizing the importance of education and awareness campaigns in preventing accidents. He encouraged all road users to pay attention to road safety messages disseminated through various channels.

Hon Mhona, along with Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Hon Kazembe Kazembe, witnessed drivers being tested for alcohol content at a police roadblock along the Harare-Bindura highway. This effort emphasizes the need for drivers to respect the sanctity of life on the roads.

The launch was attended by several government officials, including Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Province Hon C Magomo, Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs Hon M Mavhunga, Home Affairs Deputy Minister Hon C Sanyatwe, and TSCZ Managing Director Mr M Munodawafa.

This campaign is a timely reminder of the importance of road safety, especially during holiday periods when roads tend to be busier. By taking proactive measures, authorities hope to minimize accidents and ensure a safe journey for all road users.
