The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced the temporary closure of a section of the Chitungwiza-Hwedza Highway for five months to facilitate the construction of the Dema Toll Plaza and related infrastructure.
In a statement issued on March 15, the Ministry confirmed that the affected section, located at the 60km peg from Harare CBD, will be closed from March 17 to August 31, 2025. Road users have been advised to use the newly constructed detour during this period.
“To ensure the safety of all road users and facilitate the safe execution of construction works, the temporary closure is necessary,” the Ministry stated.

The project falls under Statutory Instrument 47 of 2021, which declared the country’s road infrastructure a state of disaster. CMED Contracting has been engaged as the contractor for the works.
The Ministry has apologized for any inconvenience caused, urging the public to cooperate during the construction period. The Dema Toll Plaza project is part of broader efforts to improve Zimbabwe’s road network.
