Nebushoma Village man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for violating Zimbabwe’s Parks and Wildlife Act after being found in possession of 86 pangolin scales.
The sentence was handed down by the Hwange Magistrates’ Court.
It is reported that Ishmael Ncube (41),was apprehended on November 30, 2024 in St. Mary’s, Hwange, with 1.5kg of pangolin scales concealed in a maroon satchel.

The scales are estimated to have a street value of USD$5,000.
During the trial, Ncube failed to produce a permit authorizing him to possess the scales, leading to his conviction under the Parks and Wildlife Act [Chapter 20:14] and Specially Protected Animals Regulations.
The NPAZ called on all citizens to be vigilant and report any suspected illegal wildlife activities to law enforcement agencies.
