President Mnangagwa has ruled out seeking a third term, insisting he will step down in 2028 when his second term ends.
Speaking during an interactive session with media editors at State House on Monday, Mnangagwa reaffirmed his commitment to the constitutional two-term limit, despite calls from some ZANU PF members for an extension. He said he would engage those pushing for a longer stay in office to ensure the party respects the law.
“I am very clear that I have two terms, and these terms are very definite. When they come to an end, I will step aside, and my party will elect my successor. That is as clear as day. Those who have other imaginations, it’s a democratic society for people to dream but facts will carry the day, “said President Mnangagwa.

His remarks come amid a push by some party members to amend the constitution and allow him to stay in power until 2030. The proposal was part of a resolution passed at ZANU PF’s annual conference in Bulawayo last year. However, Mnangagwa dismissed the idea, saying he would resist any efforts to persuade him to stay beyond his mandate.
