Unconfirmed reports claim that prominent war veteran and Zanu-PF central committee member Blessed Geza is seeking refuge at the Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks, formerly known as KG6, in the capital city.
Geza, a vocal critic of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, faces multiple charges, including incitement to commit public violence, undermining presidential authority, and vehicle theft. His recent calls for Mnangagwa to step down and his opposition to extending the President’s term have intensified tensions within the ruling party.
The police, currently leading a manhunt for Geza, have warned that anyone aiding his escape will face arrest and prosecution. National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi detailed the charges against him,
“The suspect is facing four counts of criminal charges as outlined:
“He is accused of theft under Section 113 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9:23, for allegedly stealing and disposing of three vehicles belonging to a complainant without consent.
“Additionally, he faces two counts of contravening Section 33 (2) (a) (ii) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9:23, for ‘Undermining the Authority of or Insulting the President.’
“He is also charged with one count under Section 187 of the same Act for ‘Incitement to commit public violence.’”
The controversy has exposed deepening divisions within Zanu-PF, with reports suggesting the military’s support for Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, seen as a key contender to succeed Mnangagwa. If Geza is indeed being sheltered by the army, it may indicate growing rifts between the military and the police, underscoring the party’s internal power struggles.
Zanu-PF spokesperson Chris Mutsvangwa addressed the matter during a press conference in Harare, expressing disappointment with Geza’s actions and warning him against being manipulated for political agendas:
“I have a lot of anger about the way he is being used by people who have a certain agenda. Comrade Geza, I do not know what other issues might be bothering you, but we, the war veterans, always remember…
“I wish he would not follow fools who are misleading him. I am deeply concerned about what is happening with him,” said Mutsvangwa.
As the search for Geza continues, the unfolding events could have far-reaching implications for both Zanu-PF’s unity and the broader political landscape.
