Magistrate Fined For Culpable Homicide After Fatal Road Accident

Timeon Tavengwa, a 46-year-old magistrate employed by the Judicial Service Commission, has been fined US$400 or sentenced to 5 months in prison for culpable homicide.

The conviction stems from a fatal road accident that occurred on November 22, 2023, along the Harare-Masvingo Road.

Tavengwa was driving a Nissan X-Trail when he struck Misheck Makuvire, a school pupil who was crossing the road. The child died instantly from head injuries. According to a statement issued by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, investigations reveal that the accident occurred in clear daylight on a wide tarred road, while Tavengwa was speeding.

“The child died on the spot from from head injuries. Investigations revealed the accident occurred in clear daylight on a wide tarred road.

“Tavengwa was negligent as he was speeding and failed to keep a proper lookout.” Read the statement.
