Minister of Local Government and Public Works Daniel Garwe has reaffirmed his support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 agenda, describing it as “unstoppable”. Garwe emphasized that aligning with the agenda is not a choice, but a national obligation, urging civil servants to openly endorse the President’s vision .
Addressing civil servants, Garwe declared that Vision 2030 – Mnangagwa’s blueprint for achieving an upper-middle-income economy – was unstoppable, emphasizing that aligning with the agenda was not a choice but a national obligation.
“I know we have Teachers ForED, Nurses ForED, and outfits, but it’s now time for every civil servant to rise and endorse the President’s agenda openly,” Garwe said. “Vision 2030 is a reality, and it’s better for everyone to join the bandwagon because President Mnangagwa was anointed by God to lead this nation.”
Garwe praised Mnangagwa’s leadership, likening him to the biblical Moses, and credited him with uncovering previously “unknown” mineral wealth and steering the country through the 2024 drought without food shortages. He also commended U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to ban aid to Africa, seeing it as an opportunity for Zimbabwe to become self-reliant.
However, Garwe’s comments have sparked speculation and tension within Zanu-PF circles. Some have criticized his dismissal of war veterans opposing the proposed term extension, labeling them as “drunkards” manipulated by opposition forces.
Garwe’s remarks have been interpreted as a bid to secure the influential Zanu-PF National Commissar post. He encouraged Zimbabweans in the diaspora to return home and contribute to the Vision 2030 agenda, which aims to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
