In a move aimed at securing property ownership for residents, the Chitungwiza Municipality has launched the first phase of its title deed issuance process. The program targets 57,000 municipal tents, also known as “ma core houses,” currently on lease.

According to the municipality, eligible property owners can apply for a Deed of Grant, a type of title deed that transfers ownership from state land to the beneficiary. The process is divided into two phases: property ownership verification and the title deed process.

To apply, residents must submit their applications via WhatsApp, including their ID and proof of ownership. A payment of $10 USD via EcoCash is required to initiate the verification process. The council will then check the applicant’s ownership status and property survey.

Once verified, applicants will receive an acceptance letter and be required to pay a fee of $20 USD. They will then proceed to the district field office for rates clearance, where they will sign local government documents and pay $350 USD, covering the cost of the title deed.

Residents whose properties are not surveyed will be required to pay a survey fee before proceeding with the application.

The municipality has emphasized that the process is voluntary, but encouraged residents to take advantage of the opportunity to secure their property ownership.

“This process is voluntary, no-one is forced to apply for and process title deeds.

However, it is important to note that a title deed is a better and secure form of property ownership and unlocks many benefits for the beneficiaries.” Reads the statement from the Municipality of Chitungwiza.

A title deed is considered a more secure form of property ownership, unlocking benefits such as access to loans and improved property values.

The title deed issuance process is expected to bring relief to Chitungwiza residents who have been waiting for years to secure their property ownership.
