Zimbabwe is gearing up to host the United Nations Tourism 21st Committee on Tourism and Sustainability meeting in September 2025, a move that underscores the country’s commitment to sustainable tourism development. This decision aligns with Zimbabwe’s 2025-26 strategy growth, which focuses on MICE Tourism as a key initiative to strengthen the country’s position in the sector.
Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Barbara Rwodzi, expressed Zimbabwe’s readiness to host the event, emphasizing the country’s dedication to shaping the future of sustainable tourism development in partnership with other member states. “Let me express gratitude for the support given to Zimbabwe by the Chair and Members of the Committee, noting that this confidence is a testament to the people and Government of Zimbabwe’s capability to host international events,” Rwodzi said.
Rwodzi also highlighted the First Lady of Zimbabwe, Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa’s, efforts to promote sustainable tourism, particularly through initiatives such as Gastronomy Tourism, Agric4She, and Farm-to-Market. These programs aim to integrate local communities into the tourism value chain, promoting inclusivity and sustainability. “As the Patron of Tourism, the First Lady introduced key programs…which the Ministry intends to extend to every province this year, promoting inclusivity and sustainability in the tourism sector,” Rwodzi added.
Zimbabwe’s goal is to position itself as a leading country in promoting sustainable tourism, focusing on environmental conservation, community inclusion, and economic empowerment of marginalized groups. By hosting the 21st CTS meeting, Zimbabwe aims to showcase its rich cultural and natural heritage, supporting the UN Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
