Civil Society Organisations (CSO) gathered yesterday in Harare facilitating preparations for the 2025 national budget advocating for the heath priorities of the marginalized groups and proposing new tax measures to cater for these groups.
Southern Africa Parliamentary Support Trust (SAPST)was part of the civil society organisations that participated in this meeting.
In an exclusive interview with this publication Programs Officer for SAPST Reginald Chaoneka said, “We are facilitating secretarial preparation for the 2025 national budget main objective to help the marginalized groups and communities covered in the national budget for the government to come up with priorities for these groups so that we move in line with the mantra ” Leaving no one behind”.
This will help us achieve sustainable development by 2030 hence the budget plays an important role in providing resources for these marginalized communities, we are also preparing sectors so that they are organised ahead of the budget”.
SAPST is advocating for women, children, the informal sector, persons with disabilities and geographically communities at peripheries that need infrastructure and essential services for them to live decent lives and that these groups are allocated adequate resources from taxes gathered by the government.
Speaking during the same meeting Diana Mailosi from The Advocacy Core team also said, “Today we brought here civil society organisations working within the health sector, HlV space and youth space to bring various players to package health priorities that we will submit to the upcoming national budget making process.
Our big interest is around what the government is prepared to do around the health sector hence the improvement of our public health sector and its human resources so we are helping the government to visualize how this can be realized”.
