Eight pupils from Matorenhembe Primary School at Murombedzi, Zvimba District in Mashonaland West Province were hospitalized in connection with a case of suspected food poisoning that occurred on 7 June 2024.
The investigations revealed that a fellow school pupil brought two rice and soup lunch boxes. After the eight pupils consumed they started vomiting while complaining of stomach pains. The pupils were ferried to Murombedzi Rural Hospital for treatment.
The pupil confessed that the parent gave her instructions on how to share the food with other pupils.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “The investigations carried out by the police revealed that a fellow school pupil brought the lunch box which contained home-prepared food after being given two lunch boxes by her parent and given instructions on how to share the food”.
He added, “More details will be available as police inquiries continue to establish the cause of sickness”.
