The Community Water Alliance has expressed concern over the government’s stance to continue paying large sums of money to Geogenix despite its failure to meet contractual deliverables attached to the work plan.
Based on the 2013 Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment number 20, which speaks to accountability and the exercise of environmental rights, an agreement between the two parties was signed and a waste processing plant was constructed at the site.
The deal has no benefit to the residents, city, and ratepayers on solid waste management promoted by the Environmental Management Agency (EMA).
According to CWA, a full council resolution should be passed expressing unwillingness to have an addendum to the agreement.
The city of Harare is now required to pay USD 123.92 per tonne for the waste collection and USD 40.00 for dumping waste at Pomona.
