President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa flanked by his Minister of Local Governance and Public Works Hon. Winston Chitando today handed out 100 double cab Isuzu replacement vehicles to the Chiefs to restore their dignity and make them mobile in their chiefdoms.

Speaking during the handover of the vehicles, President Mnangagwa said that chiefs are also public servants who are mandated by the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

“Besides being traditional leaders, chiefs are also public servants who are mandated by the Constitution of Zimbabwe to preside over their people, promote sound family values, resolve disputes and more importantly champion the promotion and preservation of our culture and heritage”

”Given the role of our traditional leaders as custodians of our culture, traditions, history and heritage among other responsibilities, it is necessary that their dignity and conditions be of acceptable standards”

The institution of traditional leadership is regulated and monitored within the parameters of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
