Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a transformative yet disruptive technology that has brought change to various sectors of information and technology, economy, agriculture, health and the society at large.
Minister of Information Communication Technologies, Postal and Courier Services, Honourable Tatenda Mavetera during the Al workshop held in Harare yesterday said they have merged with diverse stakeholders in promoting and supporting the development and adoption of AI technologies.
” Al can help us solve some of the most pressing challenges we face as humanity, challenges such as poverty, hunger, diseases, climate change and pandemics, it can also help us enhance our productivity, efficiency, innovation and competitiveness in the global market.
Al also poses innumerable risks and challenges such as ethical, legal, social and security implications. However, it is also disrupting existing jobs, work processes, skills and industries creating new ones that require different and novel competencies and capabilities henceforth there is a proactive and strategic plan in harnessing the opportunities and its challenges”.
Director General of the Postal and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (POTRAZ) Dr Gift Machengete said some companies have started implementing Al-related applications.
He added, ” ln the developed countries they are meeting to decide on the way forward in testing AI and we will also follow the same”.
