Zimbabwe’s national soccer team, the Warriors managed to hold hosts Rwanda who were playing away at home to a goalless draw at Huye Stadium this afternoon.
The match marked the Warriors’ return to competitive football since there they were banned by the world football governing body, Fifa two years ago.
The Warriors coach Baltemar Brito and his assistants started a rather strong team that had Teenage Hadebe, Marvelous Nakamba, Marshall Munetsi and Prince Dube.
The Warriors will on 19 November take on perennial rivals Nigeria at the same venue. The technical team hopes for better fortunes in the upcoming encounter.
Zimbabwe is playing their home matches in Rwanda after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently banned Zimbabwe’s stadia including the National Sports Stadium (NSS), leaving the Warriors without a home ground for their matches.
Zimbabwe is part of Group C in the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers, alongside Nigeria, South Africa, Benin, Rwanda, and Lesotho.
