Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has since opened lines for prospective Form 1 students to start applying for placements at both government and private boarding schools.

The online platform was activated live on 1 November 2023 and will close on 15 January 2024.

Prospective students have been urged to start applying while the platform will be opened for school heads of boarding schools to commence the enrolment process when Grade Seven results are out.

“Parents and guardians who wish to send their children to boarding schools are being advised to start applying through the platform [www.emap.co.zw],” read the statement from the ministry.

The secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Mr Moses Mhike said, “There were limited openings at boarding schools. He urged pupils who would have failed to get enrolled on EMAP to apply for placement at secondary schools”.

The secretary further highlights that the ministry is striving to provide quality, affordable, relevant and accessible education, all school heads are not allowed to administer form-one entrance tests. The introduction of online applications is to discourage bribing authorities to secure places.

Speaking on the same subject, the ministry’s spokesperson Taungana Ndoro had this to say, “Entrance tests conducted by some schools before admitting pupils for boarding are illegal and we want to warn those that have been doing that they will be dealt with diligently.”

“We have had issues of enrolment which is being paid for, no child in the country or parent is supposed to pay for the enrolment to the school that is nearest to them or where their child is enrolled”, said Ndoro.
