Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority has announced electricity tariffs effective 31 of October 2023.
According to the approval granted by Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA), the new tariffs came into effect on today, 02 November 2023.
The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) said that consumers will get the following on their first purchase (domestic tariff):
50 Units / kWh – $19,650.00
100Units/kWh – $42,300.00
150Units/kWh – $81,550.00
200Units/kWh – $120,850.00
250Units/kWh – $175,200.00
300Units/kWh – $229,500.00
350Units/kWh – $289,950.00
400Units/kWh – $350,400.00
450Units/kWh – $413,800.00
500Units/kWh – $477,200.00
600Units/kWh – $604,100.00
700Units/kWh – $731,000.00
800Units/kWh – $857,900.00
900Units/kWh – $984,700.00
1000Units/kWh–$1,111,500.00
Zesa does not use a flat tariff like it used to. Instead, they use a stepped tariff. What this means is that the first few units you buy are cheaper. So, for example, the first 50 units you buy each month attract a charge of $393.00 ZWL per unit. The next 51-100 units are charged a rate of $453.00 ZWL.
The idea is to make sure that those who are poor can afford electricity but also make sure that those who use a lot of electricity pay more. So, the more you use the more expensive the electricity becomes. Each month you get 400 kWh you can buy at a discounted rate
