Leading online broadcast and media TV outlet TechMagTv has filed an urgent court application at the High Court seeking permission to broadcast live the case in which recalled Citizens Coalition for Change Members of Parliament case will be heard tomorrow.
The matter is between Prince Sibanda &Ors vs Sengezo Tshabangu &Ors HCH 6649/23.
The media outlet, through its lawyers and other important media support stakeholders, wrote to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) seeking approval to broadcast the proceedings live and the request was not responded to, less than 24 hours before the court hearing.
The founder and editor-in-chief of TechMagTv Toneo T Rutsito is of the view that broadcasting and live streaming of the proceedings will go a long way in making sure the general public is informed.
“As a broadcasting media outlet, we are playing our legal mandate to inform the nation as enshrined under the Freedom of Information Act, henceforth the need for our demand to access the court proceedings”.
The applicant is of the view that no one suffers any prejudice should the proceedings be broadcast live, as this is in the interest of the public.
