Sikhala’s Appeal Postponed To November 20

0

Once again, the court today postponed the hearing of Citizens Coalition for Change member Job Sikhala to 20 November 2023.

Sikhala, a former Member of Parliament for CCC, has spent 500 days in pretrial detention.

He was convicted on 3 May 2023 for obstructing justice following his arrest on 14 June 2022 after attending the funeral of political activist Moreblessing Ali.

Speaking to journalists in Harare today soon after the postponement of the matter, his lawyer, Harrison Nkomo said, “The evidence that was laid by the state to the extent of the closure of this case did not by any way establish a prime of fashion case”
He also went on to say, “It’s clear that the evidence that the state has against the charged in the manner they are putting it, they do not have sufficient facts and does not warrant a conviction, soi it is also clear that he did not commit an offence and one-day courts of the law will find him and not (it).”
However, following his conviction and sentencing, Sikhala will remain in custody, even if he paid the fine, as he awaits trial for two other charges of committing violence and disobeying conduct.
