with the Postal and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (Potraz) is indeed accelerating its national digitilisation programme to enhance decentralisation of government functions through electronic means as witnessed by the massive donation of 720 computers to 24 primary and secondary schools in Rusape this week alone.
Minister Muswere exclusively revealed to TechnoMag stating,
“The presidential national elearning strategy, is there to ensure we stimulate, we catalyze we accelerate the development of information communication technology across the country.”
The Potraz director-general DG Gift Machengete in abstentia was represented by his Deputy Director General DDG who read from the same page as Minister Muswere in handing over 720 computers to the Primary and Secondary Schools on Monday in Rusape.
According to the Ministry of ICT and Potraz, the computers were donated under the e-government.Revelations from the Minister and Potraz indicated this programme would be extended to all government schools to ensure that every learner in public and government schools could access learning materials and education electronically and decongest cities where Schools with ICT’s are traditionally found.
Minister Muswere told TechnoMag that,
“So an inclusive approach to ensure we bridge the urban rural divide this is precisely why we are here in the rural areas. So that we create equal Opportunities for the learners in Makoni, learners in Binga, learners in Mashonaland Central province, so that there is equitable and equal access and the digital tools that are very relevant in the context of a digital family.”
Minister Muswere and Potraz DG Dr Machengete last year connected 1117 schools to the Internet under the schools connectivity programme.
The amicable marriage between Ministry of ICT and Potraz equipped 186 computer laboratories at various schools across the country with a minimum of 30 computers each last year alone and this year they have continued on the same trajectory donating at least 30 Computers to 24 schools in Rusape alone.
4280 computers were disbursed to schools throughout the year and this time on Monday, the ICT minister Dr Jenfan Muswere commissioned 24 school computer laboratories in Manicaland province ironically his home province which he attended to last since the inception of governments e-learning programs.
“Learning and training of the learners in terms of digital skills are more important in the context of the fourth industrial revolution because be it agriculture power generation, road construction, dam construction, be it any other project in any other area, the common denominator is information communication technology,” said Muswere.
