Don’t be caught in the cross-fire: SB Moyo threatens ambassadors

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade retired army major general Sibusiso Busi Moyo issued a stern warning against ambassadors whom the government accuse of being involved in local politics.

Moyo, popular known for announcing a coup in November 2017 was addressing members of Mberengwa constituency over the weekend.

In a threatening speech, Moyo said ambassadors involved in internal politics should know their limits.

“… even with other ambassadors don’t take sides, stay in your lane, you have your own troubles back in your countries and we haven’t poked our noses into your internal affairs. Ambassadors please stay in your lane don’t be involved, don’t be caught up in the cross-fire.”

Moyo added that reports on abductions and abuse of human rights were fictious bend on tarnishing the image of the country.

“And normally when we going towards regional or international meetings, we are accused of human rights abuses. For example, why would the government abduct Dr Peter Magombeyi, a junior doctor for that matter? What has he done? What does he have?. About 4000 health workers were engaged recently to assist in the first against the spread of Covid -19. Some haven’t received their first salary and are already striking. Why allow to be used by other people? You are an essential service and it affects the lives of ordinary people.”

“They want to portray the country as violators of children and women rights which are not true. We are a law abiding nation and we follow and recognise people human rights. We care for the people at all times because we must be together in all situations. We are a pro-people.”

The government on several occasions has been accused of human rights abuses especially against opposition forces or government critics.

Recently, three MDC Alliance female leaders including legislator Joana Mamombe alleged that they were tortured and sexually abused by their abductors, whom they said took them from a police station in May, after they had been arrested for organizing an anti-government protest.

Their abductors were unidentified, but because they took the women from police custody, it appears they were some kind of state agents.

Last night, another opposition member, MDC Alliance Youth Chairman for Goromonzi South Davison Chamisa was abducted, forced to drink unknown tablets, urine and assaulted before dumped in Norton.

Cases of the suppression of opposition voices are rampant in the country.
