Mliswa Lashes Out At Ministers

Independent Lawmaker Temba Mliswa has lashed out at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Ministers and what he described as conduct akin to “sleeping on duty”.

Mliswa told Parliament’s question and answer session on Wednesday that Mnangagwa’s Ministers were incapable of responding to questions or basically never appear in Parliament when needed.

“The State of the Nation Address (SONA), it is very clear in terms of the what must be achieved, the success and the narratives but that also cannot be complete without the Ministers responding, unfortunately not many Ministers respond which renders the SONA non-event.

“But the Ministers are all there and they are listening but they never respond, so what is the point of the SONA when Ministers don’t respond because each sector, each Portfolio is mentioned by the President.

“If you have to count the Cabinet Ministers and how many of them responded you will realise that while the President is saying “Nyika inovavakwa nevene vayo asi pane vamwe vene vayo vakuvaka nyika ma Minister vasinga” respond to questions.”

Mliswa added that it’s high time for Parliament to note the importance of SONA, he also mentioned that it difficult to measure the failure and success when minister does not respond to questions of national interest.

He went on to say, “Unfortunately the Executive is lying to the President, they are responsible for the policy making and execution, so we cannot end this Parliament by not talking about how the Executive has been sleeping on duty and how they are letting the President down.

“All they are good at is going to official opening of events and going to State banquets, they don’t miss them but they don’t want to come to Parliament and respond to issues of national interest.

“They are not participating in where they should participate, both boxes must be ticked not only that Parliament too has allowed them to get away with murder this is an Institution governed by the rules,” he said.
